The Prophet of Grunwald - Session 8 - What Waits in the Tunnels?

As the party stood against him, Father Manfred summoned impressive glowing aetheric armor about himself with a prayer of protection. Yuric tried (with an impressive lack of success) to subdue the priest with his own hammer, succeeding mostly in swinging the weapon enthusiastically at nothing. Olesya managed to defuse the situation -- at least somewhat -- by convincing Yuric to drop the hammer and Father Manfred that they did not wish to attack him.

Father Manfred recovered his hammer when it flew from the floor directly into his hand. He then questioned Olesya, Yuric, and Berrend. Hearing of Hellhounds and the dismembered corpses, he asked to be taken to the evidence.

The party guided him to the Lebziak house, where the rotting corpse of the vicious dogs remained, along with the hole in the wall, and the gruesome collection of body parts. Although he dismissed the identification of the dogs as hellhounds, Manfred seemed to confirm the action of the forces of Chaos in this slaughter.

He suggested finding a way to lure this monster but admitted that they needed to know more. He agreed to scour his library for any clues and then send for the party at the Red Orc. He also mentioned that he wouldn't call the Voice of Sigmar adherents his "friends" (although he did seem to defend their right to worship and called their violent behavior the night before "a matter for the Church").

While Manfred went to scour his tomes, Yuric guided Olesya and Berrend to another supposed lead, meeting Siegfried and Gerta in a small courtyard in the Empire Quarter. Gerta looked strangely at Berend and Olesya, calling them unusual for "muscle," but she nonetheless opened the way to the tunnel below the courtyard.

Siegfried then led his companions through the tunnels and it quickly became clear that a network of these smuggling passages (or possibly sally tunnels) existed under Grunwald. At one intersection Berrend found tracks that matched the Lebziak house, concluding that the Beast (whatever it was) was in the tunnels (or at least had been). Olesya's arcane senses also revealed that magickal power had left its marks on these tunnels.

Yuric was more interested in following Siegfried and reaching the cellar that was their goal. Olesya tried to get a clear answer about what they were doing, but the closest she got was that the people living there had something that belonged to Yuric and Siegfried.

When the party crept into the cellar, Olesya hears footsteps above, and a voice saying "Gerta's people should be here soon." She warned her companions.

Berrend (ever helpful) then exclaimed, "We're here!"

  1. Yuric: A swing and a miss.
    Good ear, Olesya.
Berend, I didn't think you were that... earresponsible.

Keep up the good story guys, I, Siegfried, will keep tabs on sessions with puns.

    1. Berend was simply trying to help. There is nigh a untruthful bone in his body. Definitely a whole heap of exaggerating bones but nothing that inclines him to outright lie or conceal the truth.

Besides as far as he knows we were expected!
