The Prophet of Grunwald - Session 5 - Human Remains

Image
The ill-tempered hounds dealt with, Olesya, Siegfried, Yuric, and Berend investigated the inside of the Lebziak home. On the ground floor, they investigated the destruction of the family's common room. Berend was able to discern large gashes (as from huge talons) in the room as well as tracks of a sort leading to and from the smashed window and the river. Although not entirely free of blood, there was markedly less than one might expect if a slaughter had occurred there. Upstairs, however, the whole party found plentiful evidence of just such a slaughter -- in one of the bedrooms was a grisly pile of human remains (including the severed limbs of several children and adults). Although the pile was putrefying, as best as Berend and Siegfried could tell, these chunks had been dragged up here by the hounds. The sight of such carnage weighed on all the party. Olesya expressed her grief and shock, while the others internalized theirs (although Siegfried did expel his most recent

Following up on Stephanie Grasserman's account of her night on the run, Olessia, Berend, Yuric, and Siegfried went to investigate the Ferry Terminal building and the nearby home of the River Warden Garald Lebziak  and his family. Stephanie had reported hiding in the Terminal until "something horrible" happened at the Lebziak home and she fled. On the way from the Red Orc to the Terminal, the party noted that the Countess and her daughter remained aboard the Hammer (since the guards and carriage remained in place and the common people were still lining up to await a service). The Ferry Terminal was notable only in that it was utterly unoccupied. Although Olessia and Siegfried both attempted a thorough search, they uncovered no specific clues or signs of Stephanie having hidden there. Certainly, there were plenty of places she could have hidden, however. Unbeknownst to her companions, Olessia also gazed at the terminal with her Magic Sense but saw nothing unusual.

The Prophet of Grunwald - Session 3 - Nobles, Friars, and Apothecaries

The search for Stephanie Grassermann continued. While Siegfried, Yuric, Berend, and Ploog undertook the search of the Hammer, Olessia met with Marina Ryabov , an apothecary who serves as one of the unofficial leaders of the Kislevite community in Grunwald. Marina and her husband (the barber-surgeon  Vyacheslav ) enjoyed good relations with the powers-that-be in the town and had opened their home to Kislevite children whose parents feared more vandalism. Their conversation was cut short when Marina received word that Countess Greta von Webern  (ruler of Grunwald and the surrounding county) was making her way by carriage to the town's port. Along with many other curious Grunwalders, Olessia and Marina followed the carriage's progress as armed guards cleared a way down to the harbor. Siegfried, Yuric, and Berend had finished their business aboard the Hammer when the countess's carriage arrived at the harbor, shortly after midday. Reunited with Olessia, they all watch

The search for Stephanie Grasserman began in earnest. Siegfried and Yuric pressed some of their local contacts to see if anyone saw the girl the night of the rioting at the Red Orc. They picked up no specific information, Yuric learned that more vandalism and marching happened in the Kislevite quarter and that some members of the community are keeping their children with the Apothecary, a community leader. Olessia, although she spent time tending to her community, did pass on that she suspected Stephanie might be held aboard The Hammer, the riverboat which brought the Voice of Sigmar adherents to Grunwald. Meanwhile, Ploog visited his cousin Hoibur Ironhammer , the town blacksmith, to obtain some arms for the search. Liking the irony, Hoibur loaned Ploog a warhammer (a Sigmarite symbol). Ploog then took some leather armor and readied himself. Berend made a very large show of trying to track the girl and when Olessia's suggestion came to light, made an even bigger show of

The Prophet of Grunwald - Session 1 - Trouble at the Red Orc

As a growing crowd of torch-wielding zealots chanted outside the door of the Red Orc, Emma (the owner) called for the door to be barred. This thwarted Berend 's plan to go out and reason with the crowd. Siegfried and Ploog scouted out the back exit. They found the way clear only momentarily as one of the zealots rounded the corner. Ploog tried to con him and Siegfried tried to punch him -- doing little more than buying a few precious moments.   Meanwhile, Boris (who seems to co-own the Inn with Emma) made the tactless comment that they should just hand over some sinners to the crowd -- without making clear just who he thought would make a suitable offering. When Siegfried came back into the main common room, it became clear that it was time to go and Emma told the room to clear out. The plan was to head for the River Wardens' barracks next door -- a fortified stone building which Ploog used as the town jail. While Ploog held off a vanguard of the zealots, staff a

The Prophet of Grunwald - Prelude - Welcome to the Red Orc

In our opening, you all came to be in the town of Grunwald on the shores of the River Talabec. Grunwald is a fairly wealthy town of 250 souls that benefits from being along the border with Kislev as well as near the intersection of three Imperial provinces. This means authority is often a little fluid, making for easier trade (and smuggling). Like most towns in the area, Grunwald currently has something of a deficit of adult men, as 25 or so were conscripted into the Empire army as part of the war effort. You arrived in town for various reasons and with various agendas: Siegfried arrived as part of setting up an operation to smuggle weapons gathered in Grunwald, to sell them in Erengrad (a large city in Kislev). He met his local contact Gerda (the brains of the operation) and her lowlife partner Thomel . He saw that a small warehouse was set up to gather the goods and installed himself at The Red Orc Inn. Berend  arrived following a religious vision of a stag consumed by
