The Prophet of Grunwald - Session 6 - Miraculous Cures and Shady Business

Despite River Warden Jaromir's instructions, everyone had somewhere else to go other than the Red Orc.

Olesya made her way to Marina the Apothecary to get some treatment for her wounds. Although they were well tended and bound, the Barber Surgeon Vyacheslav warned her such bites could well become infected with disease and to keep a watchful eye on it. Olesya agreed to and warned them that the bite may have come from an unnatural creature.

The three also discussed the state of the town. On her way, Olesya observed both a loud crowd pushing toward the port and that several Kislevites were posted discreetly to guard her people's quarter. Two much more obvious guards watched the Apothecary's home. Marina informed her that the story was that Rosabella -- the sickly daughter of the countess -- had been cured by the Voice of Sigmar. Marina feared that she and Vyacheslav might face some retribution since they had previously tried (and failed) to effect a cure.

Olesya, Marina, and Vyacheslav agreed to enact a sundown curfew for the quarter in hopes of guarding against any zealotry. Olessia then headed back to the Red Orc.

Barend meanwhile waded through the crowd to see what the commotion was and watched as the Countess von Webern's carriage made its way from the docks to the town square, with Rosabella -- visibly much improved from when she boarded the Hammer that morning -- waving to the crowd.

Siegfried and Yuric took this time to visit Gerta, the mastermind of their smuggling scheme. She paid them some silver shilling for the various items pilfered from the Lebziak home, stashing the goods in amidst the piles of items in her apartments. She greeted the news that the River Wardens were going to close the port with frustration, but then shared an even more serious problem: the gunsmith Gabriel Gusserin was suddenly proving reluctant to provide gunpowder to Gerta, a key component of the deal with the Erengrad underworld (and the only item left to gather).

Gerta asked Siegfried and Yuric to gather some additional muscle and then go an convince the reluctant gunsmith -- or worst coming to worst, to steal what powder he had at his home and business. She revealed the existence of smuggler's tunnels under the town including a path leading from her home to the basement of the gunsmith's home (although Gusserin is apparently unaware of the tunnel's existence). She said to meet her back at a concealed tunnel entrance near her home right after nightfall and they could proceed to "negotiate" with Gusserin.

Siegfried and Yuric then headed back toward the Red Orc, proceeding through the town square in order to case Gusserin's business. The gunsmith shop was indeed on the square -- a stout stone building with iron bars on its windows and a well-armed guard at the door.

Olesya, Barend, Siegfried, and Yuric found themselves in the large crowd in the square. There they saw Rosabella take the makeshift stage raised in the town square and address the cheering crowd. She praised the Child and the Voice of Sigmar for curing her and called it a miracle. Father Thomas, also present, preached that all could find salvation in the Voice if they (like Rosabella) were pure of spirit and focused on their souls rather than material pursuits. The mostly lower class crowd responded with enthusiasm. Although the countess's carriage left the square, Rosabella stayed, continuing to address the crowd.

Our four "heroes" (or at least protagonists) then reentered the Red Orc and found themselves face to face with an enraged Warden Jaromir who berated them for not following his instructions. Yuric tried to intimidate the warden, but instead barely escaped an outright pratfall due to the combination of blood and mud on his own boots and the surprisingly slick floor of the inn.

Jaromir was not impressed.
